Nickname: The Kumuls
Coach: Adrian Lam
Captain: Stanley Gene
WORLD CUP RESULTS
Quarter-finals: 2000
PROFILE
Not too many Kumul connections with the Warriors other than their Coach Adrian
Lam who played 119 games for the Warriors between 2001 and 2004 scoring no less
than 44 tries. His attitude to win and sheer quality will no doubt rub off on a
side who many rate as been able to cause a shock result or two. Lam is highly
thought of still by Wigan fans and for his influence alone and the fact they are
in England’s group are bound to be of interest.
Lam is like a Beckham in his native home land in a country where Rugby League is
the national sport. Other names Wigan fans will recognise include the never
ageing Stanley Gene and Mikali Aizue from Hull KR
Papua New Guinea made the quarter-finalists in 2000.
The standard is improving rapidly. There is so much natural attacking ability
and the defence is getting stronger by the year.
The big guns for PNG are Nico Slain, Michael Mark, Paul Aiton and Keith Peters.
Aiton and Peters are members of the Penrith club in the NRL.
