Andy Platt
Andy Platt was one of Wigan’s big money captures in September 1988, signing for £140,000 from St. Helens. He started out as a second row forward but matured into a prop forward and one of the toughest in the game at that. His debut for the club came in 1988 in the home game against Hull KR. He went on to make 200 appearances (7 as a substitute) and his last game was the home to the Sheffield Eagle on 13 May 1994. His career highlights include winning the Harry Sunderland Trophy in 1992 in the 48-16 Premiership victory over his old club at Old Trafford. The following year he collected the coveted Man of Steel award. He also collected winners medals from five consecutive championships (1989/90 to 1993/94), six consecutive Challenge Cups (1989 to 1994), the Regal Trophy in 1990 and 1993, and the Lancashire Cup in 1988 and 1992. He also played in the World Club Challenges of 1992 when Wigan beat Penrith at Anfield and in the 1992 WCC when Wigan lost to Brisbane at Central Park. His Representative career saw him represent Great Britain and the Colts and was a GB tourist in 1988 and 1992. He also represented Lancashire and England making the England World Cup Squad in 1995. |
