The Wigan Warriors Community Foundation (WWCF) in partnership Bag It Up Ltd are raising funds for the Wigan region through recycling.
Since the partnership began in the summer of 2009, over £10,000 has been raised from Wigan's unwanted clothing, shoes, household textiles and mobile phones.
The recycling schemes were launched as an opportunity for both Warriors and Rugby League fans, and anyone else in or around Wigan, to support the grass roots game and community projects without having to hand over any hard-earned cash!
Supporters of the Foundation are asked to donate their unwanted clothing, shoes and textiles through a number of red recycling banks in and around Wigan. All donated items are sorted into various grades. The good quality garments are resold in the UK and worldwide, whilst worn or damaged items are recycled into industrial wipers and cloths, insulation and new fibres.
Supporters can also donate their old mobile phones, iPod's and Blackberry's which are sold to developing countries, where the demand for cheap and easily accessible communication is soaring.
Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Trustee, Simon Collinson, said: "This fantastic initiative allows our fans to support the new Community Foundation without costing them a penny, whilst it also helps save the environment. We currently have textile banks across Wigan and the surrounding areas.
"We would urge everyone to think twice about throwing out old clothes or mobile phones and ask them to consider giving them to a great cause which ultimately benefits people both young and old in Wigan."
