Wigan Warriors have partnered Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust and the Local Education Authority to deliver a cutting-edge primary schools delivery programme titled the Lesson for Life Project.

The programme is delivered via a geographic family of schools approach and results in each school receiving two hours of Rugby League coaching per week for a six week period. Additionally every school is offered the opportunity to start an extra curricular club and take part in a "Warriors Tag Festival".

Community Development Officer Amanda Wilkinson said:

"This programme provides the schools with the opportunity to provide a comprehensive introduction to Rugby League. Additionally it allows the local amateur clubs to forge links in a constructive manner to ensure that more young people are participating in the greatest game of all."

The programme also works with the secondary school within each family to develop 16 junior sports leaders. These young people then assist with the delivery of the "Warriors Tag Festival" and the running of the extra curricular clubs.

Wilkinson added:

"This adds a great deal of sustainability to the schools programme by empowering local people to develop the future stars of tomorrow".
