Wigan Warriors Community Foundation are pleased to announce details of the forthcoming ‘Wigan Festival of Rugby' which will be the largest single-day multi-disciplinary Rugby League festival in the UK. Wigan's Festival of Rugby will take place on Sunday 6th June ahead of the Warriors' engage Super League XV fixture at the DW stadium against Castleford Tigers (kick off 3pm).
Over 100 teams will converge on four separate venues to participate in a fun festival which will see in excess of two thousand juniors, girls, adults and players with a disability take part.
The 2010 Festival of Rugby builds on the success and legacy from the 2009 Warriors Community Day which attracted over 45 junior teams from across the North West, and this year's festival will definitely be one not to miss, including barbeques, bars, live music and entertainment.
Speaking about the Festival of Rugby, Warriors CEO Mick Hogan said:
"2009's Community Day was the first large scale event for the Community Foundation, and the number of teams who entered on the day was excellent. We hope to provide an even bigger experience for a greater number of teams this year, and we have already received bookings from teams across Yorkshire, the North West and the West Midlands."
The Adult Touch Rugby festival will be one of the new additions for 2010 and will see up to 16 teams play against one another in a fun family atmosphere. The mixed-gender, minimal contact version of Rugby League is a chance for people who have never played the game before, or have played in the past, to get their boots on without the risk of injuring themselves.
All teams that take part will receive tickets to the Warriors versus Castleford Tigers game in the afternoon with all junior teams helping to celebrate the festival by parading around the pitch at the DW Stadium and receive a Warriors goodie bag.
