Community Foundation attend Accrington Wildcats

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation recently attended Wilson Playing Fields in Accrington, home to Accrington Wildcats.

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation’s team of coaches attended a Tag Rugby festival, held in partnership with Jane Johnson the local School Games Organiser for the Accrington area.

The festival intended to provide a new audience to the sport through a carousel of core skill leading into non-competitive tag matches. The day was well attended with over 80 children from 15 teams with spirits high throughout.

Organiser of the festival, Jane Johnson, said: “The children were really excited to have Wigan Warriors Community Foundation lead them in skills sessions and in having their first experience of playing competitive Rugby.  It was a great experience for all of them.”

The Community Foundation coaches were in the company of Andy Todd who is the Head Coach of Accrington Wildcats. Speaking on the day, Todd said: “As a Head Coach at Accrington Wildcats, it is always fantastic to see so many young people having a go at this fantastic game called rugby league – and thoroughly enjoying themselves!

“Being a member of the Accrington Wildcats Committee, a Community Club run entirely by volunteers, the relationships we have and the support we receive from the Wigan Warriors Community Foundation through the club ambassadors is hugely important and fantastic, successful events such as this are integral to the continuity of local clubs and the longevity of the game – Thank you, Wigan Warriors!”
