The Warriors won this derby fixture with ease and the two points sets Wigan up for the Good Friday showdown against St Helens. Wigan were too powerful, too quick and still had gas in the tank to spare against a Centurions side who simply had no answer and are still in search of their first points of the Super League.
Only five miles seperates the two towns but the gulf in class was ocean wide for all to see.
Wigan were able to score points almost at will and it was a complete team effort but praise must go to another hard working effort from Danny Tickle, a try on his return for Brian Carney early doors and a hat trick for Captain Kris Radlinski.
Wigan took the lead on seven minutes, quick hands from Newton and Moran sent in second row forward Danny Tickle for the first points of the night, Tickle converted himself superbly from out wide to give the Warriors an early 6-0 lead.
Leigh stand off Phil Jones missed a chance to put some points on the board on 11 minutes, a penalty sailing
wide for the visitors.
Three tries in eleven minutes set Denis Betts side on their way.
Wigan extended their advantage mid way through the half, the Warriors keeping the ball alive and winger Brian
Carney making his first start of the season was able to cross in the right hand corner, this time Tickle was unable
to add the extras 10-0.
The Warriors were in again on 26, Newton with a pass on the blind side sending other winger Brett Dallas in for
a try. This was after Stephen Wild had broke the Centurions defence to race clear from half way. Tickle this time
hit a sweet conversion and Wigan had established a 16-0 lead with very little effort.
On 31 minutes hooker Wayne Godwin was able to sneak over from acting half back and with another conversion Wigan
led 22-0.
The points looked just about in the bag even before the interval with Wigan's fifth try, some quick passing down the left involving Moran, Newton and Brown before full back Kris Radlinski popped up on the shoulder of Brown, 26-0 and with
the extras 28-0 at half time.
It took Wigan just three minutes after the break to score once more, Kris Radlinski with his second of the evening, sent in after Sean O'Loughlin's break and pass, again Danny Tickle hit the conversion, 34-0.
There was a little consolation for the large following of Leigh fans as an Oliver Wilkes try on 50 minutes at least mean't they returned back home with some points on the board, Phil Jones hit the conversion to make it 34-6.
Wigan responded almost immediately, this time Wayne Godwin the creator for Brett Dallas second touchdown, Tickles
conversion brought up the forty points. The rout continued as this time Denis Moran spotted a gap to score the Warriors eighth try of the night and Tickle converted his seventh goal, 46-6.
On 72 minutes Danny Tickle sent in Kiwi David Vaealiki for his fifth try of the season, 50-6 and the goal extended it to 52-6.
Full Back Kris Radlinski completed his hat-trick soon after and Tickles ninth conversion made it 58-6. The scoring was completed in the final seconds with the tenth try this time Kevin Brown the scorer, it finished 62-6.
After the game, Denis Betts was pleased with his side's performance,
“The performance has always been in us - what we did today was take a lot of right options like when to keep hold of the ball.
“We sat down and talked a lot about it. We know our performance had to improve and it did - but there were no high-fives in the dressing room at the end.
“I thought Danny Tickle was outstanding, again. He is now becoming the player everybody thought he would when he was at Halifax.
“It seems like he has been playing Super League for 10 years but he’s still only 21 years old.
“Sean O’Loughlin played well too. His ability is unquestionable, outstanding. He’s a talented kid and he’s now becoming more mature.
“He’s a big part of our team. Some of the things he does on a training field, you can’t believe someone can do with a rugby ball.”
