A good comprehensive win for the Warriors 16's over their local arch rivals, St Helens.

However it was a slightly nervy start from the Warriors with a few unforced errors handing the visitors a bit more ball than they deserved, but it was the home side who eventually took the lead after around the 10 minute mark following some excellent platform work from the Warriors forward pack that allowed the backs to create the space and open the score. Tries from Tyler Whittaker, Oliver Gildart and Gabriel Fell gave the Warriors the lead, before the visitors managed to post a rather soft try of their own just before the break. HT 18 - 4

In the second half the Warriors forwards started to dominate the game and the Saints defence had no answer to the powerful rolling rumble of the Wigan pack. Prop, Joe Bretherton, soon notched up back to back tries which spelt the end of anything that the visitors had left in their tank.

The home sides defence was excellent and worked overtime to repel all that the Saints could throw at them and when Wigan's Sam Baggaley timely intercept on a rare Saints offensive sortie, his 90m touchdown rubbed salt deep into the deep wound that the Warriors had carved into the St Helens team.

Keiron Murphy added another fine try for the home side with Jake Shorrocks and Nick Gregson adding the extras between them.

Scholarship bragging rights go to the Wigan Warriors who ran out very convincing winners.

The young Warriors suffered their first defeat of the scholarship season with a rather below par performance to arch rivals, St Helens.

St Helens posted the first score after about 10 minutes when ball retention became a real issue for the young Warriors. Un-necessary and unforced errors gave first half advantage to the visitors, who in turn spent long periods of time camped in their oppositions half.

However, Dominic Wear did level the game with a jinking run to the try line, but Saints soon hit back to give the visitors a 6 - 12 lead at the break.

Isaac Noi notched another try for the home side soon after the break, but the Saints started to build on their positive first half performance and were soon found again camped in the Warriors half.

The pressure eventually told as the visitors posted another two tries plus the extras. Another wave of Saints pressure resulted in a rare field goal, but mathematically it now meant that the tiring Warriors were in need of 3 converted tries. But Saints killed off any hope for the home side when their half back combination worked well to score their final try under the sticks.

A consolation try from Wigan Winger, Sheldon Johnson, gave some respectability to the final score but a rather disappointing all round performance from a team very promising youngsters
