Wigan Warriors were defeated 4-18 by the Castleford Tigers at the DW Stadium on Friday night.
It was the Warriors second defeat of the week following the loss on Monday to Warrington.
Speaking post match Head Coach Shaun Wane was full of praise for the Castleford performance,
"It was a poor performance, I thought Castleford were really good, they performed well and defended well, thay handled the conditions better than us. I thought they were outstanding today. Daryl has done a great job since he has been there and the best team won.
"No excuses despite the short turnaround, I still expect us to perform and I don't want to take anything away from Castleford, they are the best team we have had here this year. We lacked energy and if that is because of last Monday I expect us to get over that, we are better than that, that will never be used as an excuse."
The big positive to come from the game was the debut in Rugby League of Andy Powell and Shaun Wane added,
"Andy did really well, I wanted to play him in six weeks time but the way our injuries are going he was our only fit front rower. I thought he ran hard and did a good job when you consider this game is really new to him, I was really happy with him.
"Andy found out yesterday he would be playing as Scott Taylor wasn't fit.
"Overall our standards are higher than what we turned up with today, I won't see that sort of performance again this year.."
