New and Familiar Faces

  • The DW will welcome some new and familiar faces in 2016

  • Sam Tomkins set to return to Wigan after two years in the NRL with New Zealand Warriors

  • Greg Burke also returns from loan spell at Hull Kingston Rovers with Willie Isa signing from Widnes Vikings

The New Year will see some new and some familiar faces at the DW Stadium.

One familiar face that needs no introduction is Sam Tomkins.

When a player scores five tries on his First Team debut fans can’t help but get excited, Sam Tomkins has lived up to the billing.

After crossing five times in the Challenge Cup mauling of Whitehaven in 2008 Tomkins has gone onto become one of the global superstars of the game.

A regular in the full-back position for England, he returns home to Wigan after two years in the NRL with New Zealand Warriors.

Tomkins won the Super League, Challenge Cup and League Leaders Shield, all on two occasions in his first stint at the Club. He returns to Wigan thirsty for more!

Another player returning to the Wigan is Greg Burke who spent the 2015 season on-loan at Hull Kingston Rovers. Burke played 21 times as the Robins made the Challenge Cup Final and comfortably finished top of the Qualifiers to secure their Super League status.

The 22-year-old returns after a good year of regular Super League action on Humberside. His aim now will be to do the same at Wigan.

The new face joining the Wigan team this year is Willie Isa, a close season signing from Widnes Vikings. A regular at the Vikings, Isa made 85 appearances in four years as he became a firm fans’ favourite.

Having debuted in the NRL with Penrith Panthers he enjoyed spells at Melbourne and Castleford before his time with the Chemics. Isa started his career in the backs but is now at home in the forwards and will be looking to add to the already healthy competition for places in that department.
