  • Wane names squad for Friday’s game with Warrington

  • John Bateman, Ben Flower and Anthony Gelling ruled out for Wigan

  • Liam Farrell and Willie Isa return with Jack Higginson also called-up

Wigan Warriors have today named their 19-man squad for Friday’s top of the table clash with Warrington Wolves at the DW Stadium, 8pm kick-off.

The Warriors sit second in the First Utility Super League and host local rivals Warrington who currently occupy top spot. The two teams have both won seven of their opening eight Super League fixtures and are separated only by points difference.

Anthony Gelling (knee) and John Bateman (concussion) are ruled out for the Warriors with Luke Waterworth also dropping out of the squad.

Willie Isa is fit to return following a six-week absence with a knee injury whilst Liam Farrell has overcome a shoulder problem and looks set to feature having missed the Easter weekend.

Young centre Jack Higginson is also called up to the squad and, if selected, could be the third academy player in four weeks to make his first team debut following in the footsteps of Nick Gregson and Luke Waterworth.

Warriors Head Coach Shaun Wane said: “It’s good to have Liam Farrell and Willie Isa back but a blow to lose Anthony Gelling and John Bateman.

“We were hopeful of having Ben Flower (hamstring) back for this game but that isn’t the case. We’ll also have to complete a couple of late fitness tests with a few of the players that are in the squad.

“We’re under the pump and it seems that every time we get a player back we lose another but that’s just how it’s going for us at the minute. We’ll go with what we’ve got and go out there determined to put in a good performance.”
