Wane praises team spirit after Wigan book return to Old Trafford
Warriors beat Hull 28-18 at the DW Stadium in Super League semi final
- Wigan will now face Warrington Wolves in the 2016 First Utility Super League Grand Final
Shaun Wane praised the team spirit of his side booked a place in the 2016 First Utility Grand Final.
The Warriors saw off a determined Hull outfit with two late tries from Sam Powell and Anthony Gelling to seal a dramatic 28-18 win.
Wigan led 14-0 at the break but Hull hitback to lead 18-16 with ten minutes to go.
Speaking to the media after the game, Wane said:
“With ten minutes to go, we were behind and I felt a bit of panic, we practised all week on things that we knew would get Hull so we just told them to stay with that, we did it and we got the success.
“I’m full praise for the players, I’m really pleased for them and their families, for all of the fans that have stuck behind us and understood the position we’ve been in.
“We had our backs to the wall tonight. I can’t tell you how much pressure the players have been under, players haven’t trained but still turn up and put in a great performance like that. I can’t tell you how proud I am.”
The Warriors have beaten each of the top four in previous five weeks and showed incredible character to hitback and beat Hull.
“It’s been the best four weeks,” said Wane.
“I’ve really enjoyed coaching the likes of Clubby, Micky Mac, Lockers, Joel and players like that. This is a different setup but this group never know when they’re beaten.
“There’s a great team spirit, we’ve had some close to the heart meetings this week and people have spoken so honestly. The desire they have for each other is something that I’ve never known before.”
And looking ahead to next week’s final, Wane said: “This is the fourth year but we’ve only got one ring. We’ll be in this week and we’ll work hard and train hard and be ready for next week.”
Tickets for the 2016 Grand Final will go on sale from the DW Stadium Ticket Office at midday tomorrow (Saturday 1st October) and online at 1pm.
