  • Joel Tomkins says World Club Challenge win would be the highlight of his career

Joel Tomkins says a win in Sunday’s Dacia World Club Challenge showdown with Cronulla would be the highlight of his career.

The Wigan forward has won Super League, the Challenge Cup and League Leader’s shield with the Warriors as well as representing England at both Rugby League and Rugby Union.

Despite such career achievements the 29-year-old says a World Club Challenge win with Wigan would top the lot.

Tomkins said: “It’s massive, this is the one that we haven’t quite got. We’ve had some success in recent years with League Leader’s, Challenge Cups and Grand Finals and this is the one that’s eluded us so far.

“For Waney I know it means a hell of a lot, as it does to the rest of the staff and the players. We’re 100% focused on this game now.

“This would probably eclipse it all if we could get the win, to be named the best team in the world – I don’t think it can get much better than that. Don’t get me wrong, winning Challenge Cups and Grand Finals is very special but to be named the best Club in the world would be extra special.”

Shaun Wane has already spoken of how he plans to use his own experience in the 1987 World Club Challenge to impress on the players just how important this game is.

Tomkins added: “When you think about Shaun Wane as a player that’s probably the game you think of.

“I think it would be a defining game for a lot of our lads if we were to get a win in front of a huge crowd at the DW Stadium. It would be spoken about for years and years because these games don’t come about that often. To achieve it next week would be very special and we know we’ve got a lot of hard work to do.”

Wigan Warriors face Cronulla Sharks in the 2017 Dacia World Club Challenge at the DW Stadium this Sunday. Tickets are available from £22 adults, £16 concessions and £12 juniors from the DW Stadium Ticket Office, the Ticket Hotline on 0871 66-33-552 and online by Clicking HERE
