Super League Champions Wigan Warriors have joined forces with the organisers of the inaugural Run Wigan Festival to mark a huge sporting day for the town this Sunday.

For as well as receiving a medal for their efforts, participants will be entitled to free entry to Wigan’s Super League match against Huddersfield Giants at the DW Stadium on the same day.

There will also be a discounted rate for supporters wishing to attend the match details of which can be found in the runners’ race packs.

The Club also wish to make fans aware of some important information ahead of the race.


Each runner of the Half Marathon, 5K and Family Mile will receive a flyer in their race pack. This voucher along with a race medal entitles ONE PERSON to gain admission into the NORTH STAND at the game detailed above FREE OF CHARGE. To get your ticket, bring the voucher along with your race medal to the DW Stadium West Stand Ticket Office prior to Kick off on the day of the game.

Additional half price tickets are available priced at just £11 Adults/concessions and £5 juniors (maximum of 4 additional tickets per voucher), however these MUST BE PRE-PURCHASED before kick off from the DW Stadium West Stand Ticket Office.

Please Note: Seating in the North Stand will be for home fans and seating is unreserved.


Wigan will be hosting a half marathon, 5K and a 1 mile event on Sunday 19th March 2017 commencing at approximately 9am. All major routes towards the DW Stadium will be open well in advance of Wigan’s Super League fixture against Huddersfield which kicks off at 3pm

To assist the event a number of road closures will be in operation:

  • The full length of Market Street, Wigan (closed between 0900 and 1430)

  • Parson’s Walk - from New Market Street to Gidlow Lane (closed between 0900 and 1330)

  • Park Road/Woodhouse Lane/Woodhouse Drive – from Gidlow Lane to Beech Hill Avenue/Scot Lane (closed between 0900 and 1100)

  • Scot Lane – from Woodhouse Drive to Challenge Way (closed between 0900 and 1100)

  • The full length of Martland Mill Lane/Walthew House Lane/Fourmarts Road (closed between 0900 and 1100)

  • The full length of Stonehouse Road (closed between 0900 and 1100)

  • The full length of Challenge Way (closed between 0900 and 1100)

  • The full length of Stadium Way (closed between 0900 and 1100)

  • The full length of Wallgate (one lane will be closed heading towards the town centre from 0900 and 1130)

  • The full length of Library Street (closed between 0900 and 1130)

  • Millgate – from Riverway to School Lane (closed between 0900 and 1200)

  • Warrington Lane – from School Lane to Bridge Street (closed in one direction heading away from town centre between 0930 and 1130)

  • Mesnes Road/Kenyon Road/Bridgeman Terrace – from A49 Wigan Lane to Mesnes Park Terrace (closed between 1030 and 1415)

  • The full length of Mesnes Park Terrace (closed between 0900 and 1430)

Please expect delays and avoid the area if possible during these times.


Very few spaces left for Half Marathon and 5k and anyone wishing to sign up should register as soon as possible. Should capacity allow, registration for these tow runs will close promptly at 1pm on Friday.

People can register for the Family Mile on the day from 11am at the race information point in the town centre.
