Wigan Hull Classic

Wigan Hull Classic

This game marked the end of a tumultuous season for the Wigan Warriors having been 8 points adrift at the bottom of the table in June.

The arrival of Michael Dobson and Stuart Fielden midway through the season, helped the cherry and whites go on an impressive run, losing just two of their last twelve matches.

There was a sense of relief that Wigan reached the final game of the season knowing they were under no pressure to win. But the Warriors needed a performance to give a fitting send-off to several players who were leaving the club, including Brett Dallas who famously left his boots on the centre spot after the match. Dallas also attempted the first ever goal kick of his career during the game.

This was also the first time that referee Ben Thaler took charge of a Wigan game.
