Year in Review: Academy

A look back on another great year for the Wigan Academy

As 2017 draws to a close and 2018 edges ever closer we take a look back on the year that was and look forward to the year ahead.

The Wigan Academy once again enjoyed another fantastic year in 2017.

At Under-16s level, Shane Eccles’ side lost just once all season.

The highlight being a 60-6 win over St Helens on their own patch.

The Warriors Reserves were also competitive recording wins over Warrington and Halifax providing some much needed game time for some of the younger members of the First Team squad.

At Under-19s level, former Wigan player Darrell Goulding took charge of the side throughout 2017 after taking over from Head of Youth Matty Peet.

The Under-19s were dominant throughout 2017 winning all but two of their league games and recording doubles over Warrington, Castleford and St Helens.

Goudling’s side finished 2017 in fine style as they won the Academy Grand Final at the DW Stadium, the eighth time in ten years that Wigan have won the competition.
