Year in Review: Women's Team

This year we announced plans to create a Women's side

As 2017 draws to a close and 2018 edges ever closer we take a look back on the year that was and look forward to the year ahead.

Wigan announced last month that the Club would be creating a Women’s team to compete in the 2018 Women’s Super League.

The women’s game is on the rise in the UK with more women playing the game than ever before.

Last year Bradford, Thatto Heath, Featherstone and Castleford competed in the Women’s Super League.

Bradford made history by becoming the first-ever Women’s Super League champions, beating Featherstone 36-6 in the Grand Final at the Manchester Regional Arena in October.

The Women’s Rugby League World Cup is currently taking place in Australia with England facing off against Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands, Canada and Papua New Guinea.

Next year the Warriors will get involved as they form a team during the close-season.

Amanda Wilkinson, the only female level three coach in the UK will head up the side.

Other teams to confirm they will take part include Leeds, Widnes and York.

Stay tuned for more information as the Wigan Women’s Team comes together in the coming months.
