Liam Colbon had an exciting end to the season. The departure of Chris Ashton to Northampton Rugby Union and Pat Richards switch to full back enable Liam to make the wing spot his own.
Colbon ended up making 13 starts and scoring 6 tries, he told us,
"I really enjoyed the back end of the season, it was very emotional and very brutal. We nearly made it all the way, unfortunately it was one game too far. When I came into the side every game was a massive one, each was must win. The last eight games were really knock out rugby.
"It helped me when Pat played so well at full back, he was the stand out full back towards the end of the season, that helped me cement my place on the wing. Hopefully I can keep my place now."
Colbon had to be patient to wait his chance making his first team debut back in 2004,
"There has been a number of changes in personnel the time I have been there. Sometimes your face doesn't fit and it's a case of being patient. I never wanted to leave Wigan. I feel if I ever had left I would have had some doubts in my mind. When ever you have a team with the likes of Trent Barrett and Bryan Fletcher you don't want to leave."
Liam spent some of his pre-season training with the Parachute Regiment and passed the course to earn his beret with flying colours and recently finished his full time university course. He admits he is now looking forward to being a full time rugby player,
"I can focus now fully on Wigan and looking to keep my place in the side. I am now looking to kick on from this season.The highlight for me is being involved with this club every day, I feel very fortunate to train with great players."
