Match Preview:England v New Zealand
England V New Zealand Match build upFollowing England’s pulsating second half performance last time out against the Aussies, the expectation levels have risen along with the belief amongst the fans. Head to head in this tournament it is all square at three wins a piece. However the Kiwis have won one more game, 18-14 in Christchurch during 2006. This game however was annulled after it a came to light that the home side had fielded an ineligible player. Nathan Fien played in the game despite not qualifying for the Kiwis through the grandparent ruling at the time, the result was wiped from the records and Fien took no further part in the competition. New Zealand will be looking to continue their good form whilst England will be looking to build on a good second half showing against the Kangaroos. England must however sort out their right side defence, Australia had a field day down that side and New Zealand are capable of doing the same if given chance. The national side have a good record of late in Huddersfield. They have played there six times since 2001 and lost only once in 2003 against the Kangaroos 18-12. The Kiwis have had a torrid time, losing three out of their last four games here and only managing a draw in 2002. This is another huge test for England, many fans remember the last series between these sides in 2007. A lot has changed since the All Golds Tour resulting in a 3-0 series whitewash for Great Britain. New Zealand deservedly won the World Cup last year and many believe they should have taken the spoils against Australia in their opening game of the Four Nations. The final league game for both teams also doubles up as a semi final, the winners will probably square off against Australia (providing they beat France) whilst the losers are out of the running. Stat AttackPlaying as Great Britain the national side have won 63 games against the Kiwis compared to just 36 defeats. Yet as England they have won only twice and lost four times. New Zealand have had a torrid time playing against us over here, they have won just once in nine attempts. A 42-26 in London during the 2005 Tri Nations their only win on British soil for seven years. Captain Jamie Peacock is in line to make his 40th appearance representing his country.Form guideEngland – LWWWL 16-26 V Australia, Wigan, 31 October 09 - Four Nations 09 Game 3 W 34-12 V France, Doncaster, 23 October 09 – Four Nations 09 Game 1 W 48-12 V Wales, Bridgend, 17 October 09 – International Match W 66-12 V France, Paris, 13 June 09 – International Match L 32-22 V New Zealand, Brisbane, 15 November 08 – RLWC Semi Final

Total Meetings Key battlesSam Burgess V Fuifui Moimoi These two don’t play in the same positions, however they will definitely be looking for each other out on the pitch. Both players will be representing their respective countries for the 8th time. Everyone remembers the hit Burgess put on Moimoi in 2007, it has been watched on youtube more than 200 000 times!! Yet the Kiwi prop forward has really come of age in the last year and will be a real handful on Saturday night. Shaun Briscoe V Lance Hohaia Former Wigan player and local lad Shaun Briscoe has shown he can hack at it the top level this year. Unfortunately chances were limited at the Warriors and he left for Hull FC. He enjoyed several good years with the Airlie Birds before crossing the divide to his current club Hull KR. Tough as teak this lad. Hohaia is the joint most experienced Kiwi in the squad (alongside Tommy Leuluai) with 21 caps. A vital player for both club and country, he was influential in helping New Zealand win the world cup last year. Sam Tomkins V Benji Marshall The only player to get a mention from Australian coach Tim Sheens in his press conference following the game last weekend, speaks volumes doesn’t it? We all know why Sam was named Super League Young Player of the Year and he certainly showed the world what he is capable of last weekend. A tough test awaits against Benji Marshall, the Kiwis captain is on fire and was simply amazing against Australia in week one. Should be a great battle and interesting to see how this one unfolds. RefereeTheirry Alibert takes charge of arguably the biggest game of his career. The 38 year old from Toulouse has been full time in Super League for the past two years and has international experience. He refereed in both the 2000 and 2008 World Cups. He also refereed the recent England V Wales game as well as fixtures in the rugbyleague.com European Nations.
