Raper Leaves Sharks

Former Wigan coach Stuart Raper has been sacked by Australian National Rugby League outfit Cronulla Sharks.

Raper, who took over in December 2003 was under pressure to keep his job after the Sharks failed to make the NRL play-offs this season. The 41-year old had a year left on his contract.

The club are expected to announce a successor on Monday.

Australian national coach Ricky Stuart, sacked by Sydney Roosters a month ago, is the firm favourite to take the post although former Warrior Adrian Lam (who is currently the Sharks number 2) and former Wigan coach Graeme Lowe could also be in the reckoning.
