Wilkinson To Assist England

Wigan Warriors Coach Stuart Wilkinson has been appointed as the England Assistant Coach for the forthcoming Federation Shield Tournament.

Wilkinson will be working alongside new Head Coach Paul Cullen. England will be playing France, Tonga and Samoa in the four team tournament which kicks off next month.

Speaking about the appointment Stuart told us,

"It was a complete surprise when I was approached by the RFL, they contacted me in early August and I had a meeting with David Waite and it progressed from there.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for me to work with some of the up and coming players in this country. Quite a few I know well from my time in the International Academy set up a couple of years ago."

Wilkinson continued, "I have never worked with Paul Cullen but it is something I am looking forward to.It provides me with a an exciting challenge."

Wigan are represented in the squad by full back Chris Ashton who has had an outstanding season. The squad meet up for the first time on Monday with the first game against France at Headingley on October 22nd.
