Hawkley & Warriors Lead the Way

Wigan Warriors community team in the shape of Community Development Manger John Winder and Rugby Executive Dean Bell completed a one day training course with just over 30 young people from Hawkley Hall secondary school.

The training scheme was run in partnership with the School Sport Co-ordinator programme and was organised by the SSCO Andrew Duncalf.

The one day event was designed to provide the young people involved with a recognised qualification in Rugby League in the form of the Rugby Football league Leaders Award.

The qualification provided the young people with an introduction to coaching, officiating and festival organisation.

Additionally the six hour course will now allow them to take an active role in organising one of the "Warrior Tag Festivals" as well as support the extra curricular programme that is currently being delivered by the Warriors.

John Winder said:

"The course proved to be a great experience for all involved and illustrated the strength and qualities of the young people in our sport. On the evidence of this course the future coaching in this country is in a very strong position".
