Wigan bowed out of the Carnegie Challenge Cup 23-16 at Leeds ion Saturday but put up a brave effort.
The game was on a knife edge until a late Scott Donald try sealed it for the Rhinos. Wigan gave it everything . After the game Head Coach Brian Noble was proud of his teams efforts,
"They are a good team Leeds and I knew we would have to be good and we were. I think we showed we were on our game that we can compete with the best and they are the best at the moment, we are just bitterly disappointed we are out of the competition. As I said to the players we can walk out of here with our heads held high, on any other given day we may have come away with the spoils.
"They have had the bounce of the ball for me, we just couldn’t post enough points I thought we deserved in the end, and sometimes you don’t get the things in life you deserve.
We had some momentum in that game, I thought we didn’t start the best, we were a bit scratchy, Leeds are a good team and to our credit we stopped Leeds playing,I just think with that amount of effort the players put in, if we do that every week we will certainly win more games than we will lose."
On individual performances, Brian added,
"I thought Carmont was good again; Thomas Leuluai was a threat with the ball. Paleaaesina is awesome at the moment and I thought Stuart Fielden had a good game. Phil Bailey played with a busted groin, he lasted as long as he could for sixty minutes and Gareth Hock showed again why he has been gaining rave reviews, he was in danger of changing the game himself."
