A group of Wigan fans have teamed up to show their loyal support for the Warriors in a unique way.
The fans have come together to raise over £2,500 to purchase 12 giant flags which fly high above the South Stand at the DW Stadium each match day.
One of the fans behind the concept, Paul Dickinson commented,
"We want to make the DW stadium feel more like home when Wigan are playing. Central Park was unique and will never be forgotten but now the DW is our home and we want to stamp our identity on it. The flags are all positive in the statements they make with several of them recognising the club’s glorious history whilst others make reference to that other famous Wigan institution, Northern Soul.
"The hope is to fill the gantry before moving on to 'Phase 2' which will hopefully involve large flags within the stand itself. A lot of those involved are also season ticket holders at Liverpool FC and Manchester United so there is a bit of light hearted banter as to whether we want the South Stand to resemble the Kop or the Stretford End! Whilst the influence has come from these famous football clubs we want the end product to be something that is uniquely Wigan RL."
There are currently 12 flags on the gantry with two more set to be in place before the next home game against Catalans Dragons on Friday 26th February.
The group of fans meet every month to discuss designs & ideas for their support of the Club and they aim to purchase another six flags to fill the gantry. They have developed a scheme where general fans can make donations to the project and in doing so contribute towards future flags.
