With Regret

It is with regret that the Wigan Club have today learned of the death of former player Norman Cherrington.

Norman played for Wigan in the second row between 1953 and 1962 and was renowned for his turn of pace, in fact the 1958 Challenge Cup Final against Workington was remembered for a tackle Cherrington made on Town winger Ike Southward which prevented what would have been a match winning try for the Cumbrians.

Norman was a local lad who was signed from the All Saints Club in 1953 ,he made 257 appearances, scoring 80 tries, 240 points.

The Club would like to pass on it's deepest sympathies to family and friends of Norman at this difficult time.

Norman's funeral will take place at 12.30pm on Tuesday 14th December at Wigan Parish Church.
