St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School celebrated their link as an Ambassador School, linked with Wigan Warriors, with a visit by first team players, Lee Mossop and Ryan Sutton, and was presented with a commemorative certificate by Wigan's Amanda Wilkinson. After a number of years of successful community partnership, the school was proud to be rewarded with Ambassador Status.
Headteacher, John Hanley said, "It is wonderful to be linked with the World Famous Wigan Warriors. We promote the shared values of team work, healthy competition and striving to be the best in school, so the club and players are great role models. By promoting the rugby camps and by taking groups to games we can show the children how we follow the Wigan Way by promoting values of fairness, sportsmanship and respect, but in an engaging and enjoyable way. This also helps school deliver the Government requirement to promote British Values. The Club supports us in this endeavour by providing tickets, which are used to incentivise the children to produce quality writing."
During the visit the children took part in a question and answer session with the players. They discovered how the players felt when they made mistakes (upset but their team mates supported them to put the mistake right); what they wanted to be when they were younger (Lee - a rugby player or fighter pilot; Ryan - a rugby player or fireman) and how it felt to score a try (fantastic when your team mates congratulate you)
All in all, the visit was a great success and was inspirational for the next generation of fans and possibly players!
