Warriors to face Rovers at LSV

Due to scheduled pitch maintenance at the DW Stadium, the Challenge Cup Sixth Round fixture between Wigan Warriors and Hull Kingston Rovers will be played at Leigh Sports Village Stadium on Friday 15th May, 8:05pm kick-off.

The DW Stadium is unable to host the game due to essential and significant pre-planned pitch renovations. Over a six-week period, the old pitch and base will be removed with 220 tonnes of new sand and soil being laid before a new pitch is seeded and given time to grow.

Speaking on the announcement, Chairman, Ian Lenagan said:

"The annual work to the DW Stadium pitch is planned to start the week of the Challenge Cup sixth round and for that reason we have had to seek an alternative venue for this game.

"In previous years the Stadium Management and Groundsmen have been able to reduce the amount of repair work to accommodate cup games at the start or end of their schedule. Unfortunately, as we witnessed earlier this year, the condition of the pitch deteriorated rapidly in February and requires major renovation in order to help prevent this happening in future years. We understand that the full amount of time must be given for the Groundsmen to carry out this crucial work.

"Whilst it is unfortunate that we are unable to host the game at the DW Stadium, we are happy that we can keep the game within the Wigan Borough. The Leigh Sports Village is a council-owned facility, which is run by Leigh Sports Village Company and is used by several teams including Manchester United Reserve Team, Blackburn Rovers Reserve Team, England Rugby League National team and of course Leigh Centurions Rugby League.

"We have a good relationship with the Stadium Management Company at Leigh Sports Village having already played there in the 2013 Challenge Cup Semi-Final and the 2011 Academy Grand Final. They have been more than accommodating in allowing us to use the stadium and we are confident that it will provide a fitting venue for what should be a great game.

"Wigan fans are known for their loyal support and I am sure they will again support the team in good numbers for this game."

Tickets will be sold through the DW Stadium Ticket Office and Warriors E-Tickets from 9am on Tuesday. [CLICK HERE] for more details.
