Rugby at the Races - Its Madness

From the rugby pitch to the racecourse, Friday 3rd July sees Haydock Park Racecourse host the inaugural ‘Rugby League at the Races’.

A unique event which will feature jockeys representing local rivals Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors in a battle between two of the most famous teams in Rugby League.

Each race will have various horses or jockeys representing the Warriors and Wolves with six first-class races featuring the best flat jockeys in the UK.

Rugby at the Races takes place the night after the Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors clash at The Halliwell Jones Stadium. Both sets of fans and players will continue the contest by enjoying a night at the races roaring on their team’s colours.

Players from both teams, as well as officials and club staff, will all be at Haydock Park enjoying a great night out of racing followed by Madness concert. They will be mingling with the crowd and presenting prizes to winning owners.

There will also be an exclusive club offer of £25 per person for both Wolves’ and Warriors’ fans. Please enter the code RATR1 at the point of purchase.

The night doesn’t stop there - iconic British band, Madness, return by popular demand after their sell out performance in 2013 and will be bringing the party to Haydock Park once again as they perform their biggest hits after an evening of top class racing.

First race is at 6.15pm with the last race taking place at 9.15pm - Madness will hit the stage at approximately 9.30pm for their 90 minutes performance.

Jason Fildes, General Manager of Haydock Park racecourse, said:

"Friday 3rd July will be a unique evening at Haydock Park and we are delighted to welcome two of the biggest and most successful teams in Rugby League - Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves.

"We have a special night packed with excellent racing with a rugby league twist, followed by one of the most exciting bands in British music, Madness - a spectacle not to miss!"

Simon Collinson, Wigan Warriors Marketing Director, said:

"We are delighted to be working with the Jockey Club and Warrington Wolves in what should be a truly unique event where racing, Rugby League and live music come together.

"It is great to be able to continue the development of our relationship with the Jockey Club who are also members of our ground-breaking Wigan Warriors Business Club.

"We’re sure that this will be a great night out for everybody and look forward to seeing plenty of fans there."

Chloe Bennett, Marketing Manager of Warrington Wolves, added:

"This is a unique opportunity for our fans as two sports that you wouldn’t normally see together join forces. Our match day against Wigan on the Thursday night will kick things off with a ‘Races at the Rugby’ theme and hopefully it will be the Wolves heading to Haydock having struck lucky on the rugby pitch. We know the players are looking forward to being part of the occasion and we hope to see lots of our fans there to cheer the Wolves’ horses over the finish line."
