Welcome to the Learning Curve

Welcome to the Learning Curve

  • Focuses on renewable energy and the importance of social and environmental responsibility.

  • Designed and delivered nationwide by the Foundations main sponsors Mitsubishi Electric.

  • Visits from over 1500 children since launching in the autumn of 2011.

  • Fun packed and educational day for pupils and teachers alike.

The Warriors Community Foundation are set to deliver the Foundation’s main sponsors ‘The Mitsubishi Learning Curve’ programme to schools across Wigan as part of our I’m a Green Warrior campaign!

Our main community sponsors Mitsubishi Electric have a strong sense of corporate social responsibility and as a result in 2011 made their nationwide Renewable Training Centres available to schools to help increase awareness of renewable energies and widen children’s understanding of how these technologies work. The Learning Curve programme has had visits from over 1500 children since launching in the autumn of 2011 and have deliberately planned the events to challenge children to consider how they think society should cope with increased demands for energy use, whilst also seeking to combat climate change.

An on-going programme that we hope will enhance the curriculum for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 students. The sessions aim to fit seamlessly into the existing curriculum with carefully defined learning objectives.

The Learning Curve offers a fun packed and educational day for pupils and teachers alike. The children use a specially designed workbook (complete with stickers) and purpose-built experiments to discover how renewable technologies work. They will learn how photovoltaic (PV) panels can use solar energy to reduce electricity consumption and also investigate how air source heat pumps can provide heating in the middle of winter, by extracting ‘free’ energy from the outdoor air. They also recycle their drinking cups into bird feeders and visit the company’s special wormery, where kitchen waste is recycled.

Why not bring your class or eco-council and let us take the strain from you for the day? The event lasts for approximately three hours and is delivered at the Wigan Warriors Community Foundations headquaters where our new I’m a Green Warrior classroom has been established.
