Wigan Warriors devote this week to the ladies
Host of exciting activities and announcements to happen this week
- Events to climax at First Team game against Wakefield on Mothering Sunday
With this week’s game against Wakefield Trinity falling on Mother’s Day and to help celebrate International Women’s Day the Wigan Club will devote this week to the ladies.
A host of exciting activities and announcements will take place throughout the week with the club paying tribute to several ladies at the game on Sunday.
The fixtures for the Wigan Warriors Women’s team inaugural season will be announced this week as will the first ever Women’s team captain.
The squad will also have their shirt presentation lunch at the training ground on Saturday. Sponsors and families will join the players who will have their shirts presented by members of the men’s team. The women’s team will also be presented to the Wigan fans at the DW Stadium on Sunday.
Women from a local women’s refuge will also be treated to a pamper day this week. The Warriors Community Foundation has helped pull the day together alongside volunteers from Toni & Guy, Mindbodyworks, Rebel Hairdressing, Crystal Beauty, The Nail Lodge, Heart and Soul Inspired Healing. The ladies will be able to relax in style and choose a range of treatments including; facials, manicures, blow dries, reiki healing and massage.
The Community Foundation are also on with plans to launch a campaign to stop domestic abuse against women and staff from the Club will this week take part in a domestic abuse awareness session.
The week will climax on Sunday at the game against Wakefield where Lily and Mary, the ladies who featured in the recent Rugby Memories session with John Bateman, will be guests of honour and will be joined by other inspirational women including MP’s Jo Platt and Lisa Nandy.

“It’s an exciting time for the Women’s team as we near the first ever game for the team and with the great work the Community Foundation are doing too alongside everything planned for the game we are sure it will be a fitting week!”
