Warriors Treat Local Ladies

Families of the Warriors First Team players this week joined forces with Wigan Warriors Community Foundation to host a ‘pamper’ day for women from a local Women’s Refuge.

Following the success of the npower Community Blitz, Taulima Tautai’s wife Anjuli approached the club looking to volunteer for similar community projects.

After seeing the players supporting the local Women’s Refuge in conjunction with Club partners Sealy, who kindly donated new beds for the refuge, Anjuli and the Wigan Warriors Community Foundation then decided to take this further and provide support for those affected by domestic violence in the community.

The first event was partnering once more with the local Women’s Refuge where with the help from local businesses and the players’ families, the Community Foundation hosted a ‘pamper’ day.

Guests were treated to complimentary hair styling, facials, massage and reflexology, manicures and reiki healing while receiving toiletries, clothes, some home baking and a buffet meal on arrival. This initial event was about creating a feel good factor for those affected by domestic violence and providing an opportunity to feel cared for and valued by the community.

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation Health and Wellness Manager, Claire Taylor said: “As a Club, we wanted to contribute to the healing process to those affected by domestic violence.

“Whilst we appreciate this is not a quick fix, this is part of the process of addressing their emotional recovery. This was one of the rare moments, the women had been able to indulge in some ‘me time’ and we all enjoyed the opportunity to facilitate the day. We certainly plan on repeating this event and are also looking to work with the council and establish a programme to launch a campaign against domestic abuse.”

The Wigan Warriors Community Foundation wish to acknowledge the support of local businesses Toni and Guy, Rebel Hairdressing, Heart and Soul inspired, Crystal Beauty, the Nail Lodge and Mind Body Works for their generous support of the day as well as the friends and family of the Wigan Warriors Players who gave up their time to provide this wonderful experience.
