’These are games you want to make a difference in’ – Davies
- Super 8s momentum key for Grand Final push says the Warriors wing
Wigan will head into Friday’s Derby Day clash against St Helens prepped and ready according to Warriors wing Tom Davies.
The fierce rivals face off for a third time this season with the Cherry & Whites looking to avenge their two defeats earlier this season away to the Saints in the third round of the Super 8s.
Speaking to Wigan TV, Davies said: “We’ve had a good preview of them (St Helens) and everyone’s been firing into training. We’re really looking forward to it as it’s always the biggest game of the year - these are games that you want to play I and make a difference in. We’ve had some really good sessions already, some good training and some positive meetings under our belt so hopefully it’ll come to fruition on Friday.”
Wigan head into the Super 8s game against the top of the table Saints with two Super 8s wins under their belts after wins against Castleford Tigers and Challenge Cup winners Catalans Dragons. In Super 8s games against Saints, Wigan have won three out of the four fixtures between the side’s since the format’s inception in 2015 and Davies is hoping that the Warriors can continue to hit their straps in final season stretch.
“We spoke early on in the season about having a really good run in these Super 8s games, so we have ourselves in a good position to get into a Grand Final and ultimately that is our goal, to go and win in it (Super League Grand Final).
