Wigan Warriors have signed half-back Jarrod Sammut on a two-year contract following his release from newly-promoted Super League side, London Broncos.

Sammut, 31, has spent the past two seasons in the capital with the Broncos, scoring more than 560 points in 55 appearances and kicked two goals in the Broncos’ 4-2 win over Toronto Wolfpack in the Million Pound Game that sealed their return to the top-flight. The Malta international, who previously played in Super League for Crusaders, Bradford and Wakefield began his career with the Penrith Panthers in the NRL where he made 38 appearances and can also cover the full-back and wing positions.

Wigan’s latest signing, Jarrod Sammut: “It’s a massive opportunity for myself to play for one of the biggest clubs in Super League. I’m really excited to get stuck in and play my part. The whole environment at the Club is something that will help me progress my game even further and I hope I can bring a different style of rugby and attacking flair to the team, as I’ve been around the game for quite some time. I’m looking forward to putting on the Cherry & White Jersey.”

Wigan Warriors Head Coach, Adrian Lam: “Jarrod is player who has can produce a little bit of magic and keep defences guessing. He’s a livewire type of half-back, and he’ll add to our options in the halves. Having spoken to him, Jarrod is hungry to show he has what it takes to produce the type of footy he is capable of on a consistent basis for a club the size of Wigan. I’m excited to be working with him and I’m sure all of our fans will enjoy seeing him take to the field in the Cherry & White jersey.”

Executive Director, Kris Radlinski: “Adrian has been in town a couple of weeks now and has had a good look at his squad of players. When we heard the news about Jarrod’s release from London we acted quickly to meet him. It was clear that he was a very motivated guy who still had a burning ambition to play at the top level. We believe will strengthen our group. He has Super League experience, I think Jarrod has the potential to become a player our fans will take an instant liking to and we’re delighted to announce he’ll be a Warrior for the next two seasons.”
