Wigan Warriors Head Coach Adrian Lam believes that Friday’s visit to Warrington provides his players with the perfect opportunity to get their Betfred Super League Season back on track.

The Cherry and Whites head into the fixture off the back of three defeats in a row in the Betfred Super League. On how Lam is looking to boost his player’s confidence ahead of Friday’s clash he said: “I feel that we’ve got a great group of men with the experience to turn it around.

“Obviously that hasn’t happened yet, but each week is another opportunity to do that and this week is no different.”

Warrington have begun the season well, winning four of their first five in Super League, making them the favourite for Friday night.

But Lam described how this could play into the Warriors’ hands.

“I think the timing is great for Wigan because it gives us an opportunity to bounce back, play the way we really want to and come away with the win.

“We feel with the last couple of disappointing performances that this is certainly one to get the players up for and have no excuses.”

Speaking at a joint press conference between the two clubs held in the centre of Golden Square Shopping Centre in the heart of Warrington, Lam was positive about trying new ways to boost the fixture’s profile.

He said: “I’m all for it. It they go big and throw it out like this then hopefully we can return the serve back in Wigan. I love this for the game.

“It creates interest and interest creates crowds and people turning up for games.”

The local rivalry between the two clubs has been ramping up this week ahead of the game - the first time the two sides have met since last October’s Grand Final.

However, Lam explained how his side would approach the fixture like any other.

“We are just going to be focusing on ourselves. There will be a few more changes this week as we try to find some more cohesion between the guys and improve the performances.”

The changes made in this week’s squad will certainly be a result of those injured last weekend. Lam provided an update on those missing out and returning ahead of Wednesday’s 19-man squad announcement.

“Dom Manfredi and Liam Marshall are out this week so they will be replaced by Tom Davies and either Morgan Escare or Chris Hankinson on the wings.

“The other two boys coming back are (Joe) Greenwood and (Dan) Sarginson so that will be a big boost for our team.”
