Wigan Warriors Community Foundation, in partnership with Houses for Homes and the RFL’s England Talent Pathway programme are hosting a series of open access player development days for Under 9s – Under 16s (Year 4 to Year 11).

The programme is designed to help every athlete reach their full athletic potential, regardless of age, gender, limitation, sport or natural ability. We also work closely with our community club network to provide coaching opportunities for coaches aspiring to progress on their pathway too.

Anthony Atherton, Community Innovation Manager said: “The Train With The Champions matchday initiative was very popular and saw large numbers. We are looking to build on this and ensure that a challenging and rewarding experience is had by all players. We see this as a further opportunity to supplement the great work done by teachers and coaches of the players.”

Wigan Warriors player Rachel Thompson added: “I was really took back from the response we had from the previous session with the girls and so pleased by the feedback we received about how much the girls enjoyed it. The women’s teams also took a lot from the session and enjoyed the opportunity to engage with the girls, some of which come to support us week in week out.

“We are grateful for all the support we get from fans and especially the young girls who we hope we can be a role models too as I’m sure there are many girls out there who will be hoping to wear the famous cherry and white jersey in years to come. These session are just the start of their journey towards being a part of that champion team.”
