Morgan Smithies looks back on Wigan Warriors’ 38-22 victory over Huddersfield Giants at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The 18-year-old believes the win was ‘needed’ as his side now sit just two points from fourth place in the league table.
- Smithies: “At the start of this month we talked about getting five wins from our next five games, so we’ve still got two more of them to go.”
Morgan Smithies says Wigan Warriors are ‘taking each game as it comes’ after their 38-22 win at Huddersfield Giants on Friday night.
Adrian Lam’s side move up to sixth in the Betfred Super League and are now only out of the play-off positions on points difference.
The 18-year-old said: “We just needed to get the two points, we know we need to improve in parts but overall we are glad with the win.
“It’s positive that we are heading towards the top five, but we need to take each game as it comes and hopefully we will keep improving.”
Smithies believes Wigan have improved in the way they start the first and second halves, after his team scored two tries within the opening 20 minutes of each half at the John Smith’s Stadium on Friday.
“Earlier on in the season we were dropping in the first ten minutes of games, but it is something we’ve worked on and that we have got better at.”
The Warriors’ next Super League game is fifth placed Salford Red Devils, which will see the Cherry and Whites return to the DW Stadium for the first time since the start of May and the young forward is looking forward to continuing the recent momentum back at home.
Smithies said: “At the start of this month we talked about getting five wins from our next five games, so we’ve still got two more of them to go.
“It will be good to get back to the home fans, playing back in front of them next week will hopefully mean we can come away with another win.”
