Free Touch Rugby underway

Wigan Warriors Community Foundation’s free Touch Rugby programme has begun and there are still places available to sign up!

The Community Foundation have partnered up with Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles to offer a new 12-week Touch Rugby programme to help men lose weight and feel great, and it started last Tuesday at Newbridge school in Platt Bridge.

Daz Marsh from the Warriors Foundation, who organised and runs the sessions said: “We want to get adult males within the borough more active, but also to continue to stay active after the 12 weeks.”

As well as getting men active, a guest speaker gives a 30-minute presentation to the group. The last program had representatives from the likes of State of Mind and Behind A Smile talking about mental health, alongside nutritional presentations explaining the importance good nutrition and how both are important not only on a physical level but also on mental wellbeing.

Lee Bussell, who took part in the last programme, said on his experience: “Touch rugby has dramatically improved my health…physically and mentally. Join a programme, stick to it, enjoy it!” The programme helped Lee lose over 5% of his body weight.
