As part of the Club’s 2020 marketing strategy, Wigan Warriors have launched official brand channels on GIPHY and TikTok.
In a strategy to engage our current loyal fanbase, the Club have increased its online digital media presence, adding to the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels that already exist - in an attempt to attract new and young supporters.
Media and Communications Manager, Matt Hennessey, said: “More so than ever, there is a need to keep our fans engaged and provide them with content and platforms to stay in touch with Wigan Warriors as we look to build on the strong digital presence we currently have.
“GIPHY and TikTok are the latest channels in which we can communicate and speak to our fans, and our aim with these two platforms is to reach out to a younger demographic of existing and potential audience, in a space and environment they are familiar with and see fun and innovative content created and curated by both Wigan Warriors and our loyal fanbase.”
GIPHY is a search engine that allows online users to search for and share short looping videos with no sound, that resemble animated GIF files.
GIFs can be used via social media channels and with the Club now having a channel with new GIFs being uploaded on a regular basis, Cherry and Whites fans can get involved and interact through Twitter and Facebook.
All uploads to the ‘WiganWarriorsRL’ GIPHY channel are eligible for distribution through Twitter by searching on the GIF tab when tweeting and typing in a variety of hashtags including ‘WWRL’, ‘Wigan’ and ‘WiganWarriors’. The same process applies for Facebook too.
Fans can also visit the WiganWarriorsRL channel on GIPHY and share a variety of GIFs via a host of different social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp.

TikTok is a video-sharing social networking service that is used to create short dance, lip-sync, comedy, and talent videos.
It allows users to create short music and lip-sync videos of 3 to 15 seconds and short looping videos of 3 to 60 seconds.
During these times where self distancing measures are in place by the government, a number of Wigan players from the men’s first team and women’s side have recorded videos of themselves doing a variety of tricks and flicks and showing their funny side, which we have shared on our own TikTok account.
To find Wigan Warriors on TikTok, simply search ‘@wiganwarriors1872’ and you will find the official club account. Make sure to follow us for the latest videos, which we also be sharing across other social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter - to engage all our fans who are social media users.
